Welcome to Year Two!

Mrs Penman, Mrs Cowley and Mrs Ball look forward to working with the class this year.

Our topic this half term is Our World!

Please take some time to read our curriculum newsletter for this term to find out more about what your child will be learning.

Homework

Firstly, we would like to thank you in advance for all your help supporting your child with their learning at home. We know that life is busy and appreciate all that you do to work alongside us in your child’s learning.

Homework Project: Year 2 have been set the task of completing a project supporting our topic of Our World. This is due into school by Friday 8th July 2022 ready for them to present to the class during the last week of the term. We are very much looking forward to seeing what they produce.

Summer Term Homework Project

Reading: It is important that are children are reading as much as possible, therefore, we would be grateful if you could read at home on a daily basis and write in your child's reading record when you have listened to them. A short comment to let us know how they got on with the book would be useful. For example, you could comment on if they read fluently; if they used their sounds; what they found tricky; if they understood what they were reading. Please ensure that your child’s reading record and reading book are brought into school every day so we are able to listen to them read throughout the week. This will also enable us to monitor their progress and change their books when they have been finished.

Times Tables: It is very important that your child knows their times tables as this will support them in their Maths lessons. In Year 2 they should know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Later this term, Year 2 will take a weekly speedy tables test.

Spelling: New spelling homework will be sent home every Wednesday to prepare the children for a spelling test on a Monday. Spelling folders are to be returned to school every Monday so that the spelling scores can be recorded in them and new spellings added for the following week. Children in Year 2 are also expected to have learnt a number of common words. To support your child, please also encourage them to learn the Year 1 and Year 2 common words. These can be found on the spelling document below.

Other Information

PE: In Year 2, P.E. will take place on a Monday and Tuesday this term.  Please make sure the children come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.

Library: Year 2 will have access to the library on a Wednesday where they will be able to browse the shelves and choose a library book to take home to read. Please ensure that your child brings this book into school the following Wednesday for them to change for a new one. Unfortunately, children will be unable to choose a new book until the previous has been returned.
