What does respecting differences mean?

Although some people may look the same or do the same things, we all have differences too.

Respecting differences is about showing kindness to all people, no matter how different they are from you.

  • Draw all of the differences between you and your friend, and then colour them in.

What is your friend's face or hair like? Do they wear a special type of clothing?

To describe your favourite characters and and create a character of your own.

This lesson includes:

  • an introduction to characters in stories

  • three activities

 

Focusing on characters

It's important to include characters in your writing because they help to drive the story. Characters can be real people who you know. They could also be real people who you don't know. Or they can be completely made up.

Click this link to watch this short video to find out about questions you should ask yourself when coming up with a new character.

 

Activity 2: Your favourite characters

Look at the list below and write a sentence about each of your favourite characters.

  • Your favourite animal character
  • Your favourite female character
  • Your favourite male character
  • Your favourite evil character

Make sure you use capital letters and punctuation correctly.

Once you've finished you can show your sentences to someone else, like someone you live with, and see if they agree with you.

This lesson includes:

Activity 1: A new land at the top of The Magic Faraway Tree

Click the link to watch this video to hear a story about The Magic Faraway Tree.

 

In the video, there are lots of different lands at the top of the tree. There was 'The Land of Toys', 'The Land of Topsy-Turvy' and 'The Land of Goodies'.

  1. Write a sentence for each land describing what you think each one is like. Try to use lots of adjectives (describing words).

For example: I think the Land of Toys was magical, noisy and bright.

  1. Once you've written one sentence for each land, think about a new land that you would like to create. You can be really imaginative!

Choose a name for your land and write six sentences to describe what it looks like. Make sure you keep including lots of describing words (adjectives) in all of your sentences.
