Welcome to the Reception Class Page!

Here in Reception we are learning how to be good friends, independent learners and brave writers! We often discuss our problems together and always challenge ourselves in choosing time.

Through books and popular themes, we ensure the children have plently of opportunites to develop in all 7 'Areas of Learning' in the EYFS Curriculum:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional- Making Relationships, Managing Feelings and Behaviour, Self Confidence and Awareness
  • Communication and Language- Listening, Understanding and Speaking
  • Physical Development- Moving and Handling, Health and Self Care
  • Literacy- Reading and Writing
  • Maths- Number and Shape, Space and Measure
  • Understanding the World- People and Communities, The World and Technology
  • Expressive Arts and Design- Media and Materials, Being Imaginative

We also teach and encourage the children to demonstrate these Characteristics of Effective Learning:

  •  Playing and Exploring- investigate and experience things and 'have a go'
  •  Active Learning- Concentrate, keep trying if you encounter difficulties and show pride in what you achieve
  • Creating and Thinking Critically- Develop your own ideas, make links and develop strategies for doing new things

Reception enjoyed taking part in this year's World Nursery Rhyme Week. The children learned five nursery rhymes with actions: Incy Wincy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Row Row Row Your Boat, Two Little Dickie Birds and Down in the Jungle. They also played with small world toys and set ups relating to the rhymes, made spider webs from wool and painted cotton wool print sheep. On the Friday the children dressed up as their favourite nursery rhyme characters and parents and carers came to watch them perform the rhymes they had learned. We had lots of fun!

The adults in Fox Hill Nursery and Reception are committed to providing an inspiring and enabling environment to support the learning and development of our youngest children. Here are some examples of enhancements in the Reception class which have been designed with the children's interests and next steps in minds.
